What Makes a Denim Dress Right Handed?
The Denim Dress is perhaps the most popular style of Dress Shirt for men. It has been in use for over a century, and the range in styles continues to grow, now featuring far more detail than the simpler suits that are found a century ago. One of the features of a Denim Dress is the buttons that have either been left or right handed.
Left Handed – This is where the buttons are on the right, meaning that the right side is facing up and facing you. The shirt would be pulled over the head and secured with buttons either on the left or right side. For this reason, it has become standard for left-handed men to wear the shirt backwards.
Right Handed – A man who wears a shirt that is worn by a right-handed person can usually be identified by the clothing worn on the other side of the head. This is a left-handed shirt because the button on the left is on the right, with the button on the right being on the left. The buttons would be right handed, which could also mean that the buttons on the right side are completely hidden. Typically, people who wear a right-handed shirt would wear a tuxedo to some special occasions.
Modern Denim Dress names began when the names of the shirts were changed slightly, and to encompass a range of styles, with the term ‘Dress Shirt’ goes from the word denouement’ to denim dress and the name changing from denouement to denims. This was made in order to reflect the changes in dress shirts, and they are still named with this ‘denim dress’ name today. Today, denim dresses still allow you to wear the shirt one handed but are also available in two-handed models. In fact, today’s Denim Dress shirts are known as two handed Denim Dress.
Just like denim jeans, there are many different types of Denim Dress shirts available, the most common of which is the Crew Neck-shirt, which features the traditional look of the original with a waistband in one of the many fabrics today, typically cotton. Other popular fabrics are polyester, which is popular for street wear and other areas, as well as canvas, which is popular for tweed wear.
Buttoning your pocket square can be important when wearing a Denim Dress, as the pocket square sits on top of the pocket and buttoned the wrong way can easily become undone and cause problems with the pocket, such as exposing your tie knot. The reason for this is that the pocket square is in place to protect the pocket and tie knot, and if it is not tucked away it can be easily pulled out, revealing the tie knot. This can make a stylish manner in which to wear a pair of jeans. Luckily, there are a few solutions to this problem, such as a pocket square that secures to the pocket without causing any damage to the pocket, but they often come with the disadvantages that they cannot be kept tucked away, and can sometimes be a pain to get to in a hurry.
The reason why the button on the left is considered left handed is because the right is on the left. You can spot this as a common issue in left handed Denim Dress. Another reason for the custom of buttoning on the left is because buttons on the left will make it easier to roll up, as both hands will be free for other tasks. This is one way that American western clothes gain their unique Western look.
One thing to note is that the right handedness is not limited to just denim dresses. There are plenty of other options that are popular, such as western shirts, crew necks, and blazers. So, if you need to wear a pair of jeans and you cannot find a shirt that you feel comfortable with, the jeans might not be what you would want to wear, but the western shirt or blazer would probably work out well. It is possible to get the western look with pants, and it is not limited to denim dresses only.
